Final Fantasy 13 is a long awaited new addition to the Final Fantasy franchise, and have since launch rave reviews among the gaming community since it’s first introduction to the gaming world. This is partly thanks to the change in battle mechanism that many have thoroughly enjoyed!
The newer battle mechanism in Final Fantasy 13 is the fastest battle system thus far in it’s long standing series. While it is still turn based, it is not that slow compared to the previous few instalments.
At first glance, it seems like a confusing and uphill task to actually master the battle mechanism, many will definitely agree with that. The developers have done a great job to ensure that everyone can pick up the game and give it a go by giving them a long 6 hours worth of tutorials, and you’ll get to learn all the ins and outs about the franchise in a linear story mode, which can be quite a long 6 hours for some veterans.
The major difference between the old system and the new system is what the developer would call paradigm shift, which is really a what makes the game stands out. This system will put party members in a certain roles with only a certain spell within that role.
This allows you to rotate each party member’s role in a fight, once you’ve learned enough about the game you can easily find out which combination of roles works best when it comes to fighting a certain type of enemies.
Why switch roles so often?
The short answer is yes, if you want to get the best combat ratings possible for every fight! Combat ratings ranges from 0 to 5 stars, 5 being the maximum and only when you’ve achieve 5 stars for battles will you start enjoying better loot and items drops. Thus it is vital that you understand how to counter the many types of enemies in game with appropriate combination of these roles.
