I purchased this dvd player for my 5 year old son. He previously had a Coby 10 inch portable dvd, that lasted 3 years. I regret not repurchasing that model. THis dvd player does not utilize the full 8 inch screen. Most all the videos play at a reduced 5 inch size (letter box). The Coby 10 inch always filled the entire screen. I have to go into the settings and “stretch” the picture manually to have it fit the whole screen. If you watch the movies in “full screen” mode then the battery life is less than the 6 hours.
The buttons are at the bottom of the screen and often times get inadvertently pushed since they are so sensitive. I don’t advise watching it in a dark car because you will never hit the right buttons. I’m very disappointed. If you are purchasing this for a child, I don’t advise it. I highly suggest the Coby 10 inch. The Coby was a nice dvd player, very easy for a child to work, and the price is [...]–much less than this one.

I researched a lot of small dvd players and I found that this has all the little things I like. The screen will twist so if anybody wants a better look at whats playing just twist the screen portion. The clarity is great. The volumn could have a little more power. That is the only thing I found that was lacking. Headphones no problems. You have 2 inputs and could possibly have 4 if you double up with a 2-1 adpter for each input. Money well worth spending. I did buy a second one so I could have one at home and one at the office. A little high in price, but I have had many sony products and will continue to buy Sony products. The Sony big screen is the next purchased. 52″750BXBR7,8,9. I am waiting for the deals to come out where the blue ray,Tv gets around $1500. It will be there sometime this year. Sony, when you start introducing prices like this, the volumn of people who will order from you, will be profitable due to the shear volumn of people who will and are waiting. Read the reactions of blogs that people will tell you the same thing. Amazon is a great place to start. Pricing is the number 1 conplaint due to the fluxuation in price from day to day. You might loose a lot of business in the mean time. SONY, Don’t hold out to long. John

I bought a Sony DVP-FX820 portable DVD player in July of 2008 and it has already failed after light usage. I liked the player a lot, but the video now ceases to work after two minutes of playing a DVD (the audio still works).
While Sony customer service answered the telephone quickly and they were very helpful in concluding it was a hardware failure, I am disappointed with premature failure of this DVD player. Clearly, this product has not lived up to Sony’s reputation for relability.
Finally, potential buyers of similar Sony products should remain mindful of their crappy warranty, which is 90 days for labor and 1 year on parts. I wonder if this is indicative of Sony’s lack of confidence in their own products? The labor alone will be $30 to $40 in this case, so I suggest using a credit card that doubles the manufacturer’s warranty.

I loved the picture quality of this Sony UNTIL the picture went BLACK after less than 60 days and maybe a total of 12 DVDs played. At first the problem was intermittent… then it wouldn’t play at all. Hoping this is not a common occurrence as I just received a replacement unit today. I have to say customer service is impressive as after sending an email, I was shipped a new player right away; even received a postage paid label to return the old one. Overall this Sony was just what I was looking for – small, sturdy with good picture quality. The controls are unlit and it would be a GREAT improvement if you could see the controls (pause, stop, play, etc) when the lights are off, which is my preferred way to watch a movie. The tiny “joystick” that could also be improved upon – it’s a little touchy and I often had trouble selecting the menu item I wanted. Overall, assuming quality issue I had is not experienced again, I would recommend this DVD player.

Replaced a portable DVD player and so far it’s working well. My toshiba did as well so my real rating will have to be when I have it longer. A much clearer picture than my older Toshiba. I don’t like the buttons below the screen. Can’t see them in the dark and often push ones I don’t mean to as they aren’t really buttons.
