Once I figured out how to switch the Picture setting away from the auto of “Sports” (which blurred the image and made me seriously concerned at first), this TV was great. I’m watching Star Trek right now on DVD, and it’s fantastic. Delightful.

But the SOUND! I can’t even explain what’s going on here — I keep diving for the remote, but this looks to be a fundamental issue with the set. Some of the sound’s fantastically loud and crisp and clear, but then someone speaks and it’s barely audible. Occasionally I’ve been looking away from the screen and assumed that the speaker was in the background of a scene, or we’re not supposed to be hearing them clearly, only to look up and see that the character’s front and center and clearly meant to be heard.

I guess I’m going to have to go the way everyone else has and just shell out for a set of speakers. It’s really annoying, given that everything BUT conversation seems to be just fine, and I really can’t deal with cranking up the sound to hear people, then frantically dialling back down whenever we’re back to car engines or spaceships or whatever, which threaten to shake the paintings off the walls.

Buying televisions online have always been a bit nervous to me. The process of having a television shipped and hoping that it is everything that I saw online is nerve racking. However, I am very satisfied at the Toshiba product dvd combo I have recently purchased. Toshiba has a history of enduring quality and lasting products. As a current Toshiba television owner for 17 years, I am very impressed at this dvd combo flat screen hdtv. It is not too big if you are not a fan of the huge flat screen trend. Nor is it too small that you have to strain your eyes to see the scores of sports matches on ESPN or breaking news on ABC. It is light weight and easy to set up(just the power cord, owners manual and the remote and plug in).

The plus of this product is that there are two hdmi components which is rare because most televisions smaller than 32 inches only have one hmdi input. In addition, the quality of the sound is not overly loud and I am impressed at the high definition technology.

I am no television analyst or consumer report genius and don’t quote me on this next statement, but I am impressed with the features of the Toshiba hdtv dvd combo 26″.

I decided to buy this TV after reading all the reviews because they price was very reasonable (much less than buying it in the store)and because it was exactly what I was looking for to replace our older model Tv in the bedroom. I was a little concern with the reviews about the sound, but the moment we first used it I was pleasantly surprised! Not only is the picture wonderful and I absolutely love having the attached DVD player, but even after 2 months the sound seems perfectly fine to me. Maybe the sound might be more of an issue if it was a living room tv? For using this TV in the bedroom it works perfect and the sound is much more than loud enough. We did buy a mount, but have not had to use it at this point. We have it on top of our dresser and no problems with the picture. I definitely recommend this TV. We love it and for the price your can’t beat it !

    * Picture quality is poor. You have to view it straight on in order for the screen not to appear too dark.

**It won’t receive certain digital channels. It will say that the signal is Low or that the signal is Encrypted. The same channels that this Toshiba couldn’t pickup, I was able to receive on my Insigma HD tv.

*** Bad sound quality on the digital channels. I decided not to bother with adding speakers because the sound is great on my other HD tv on digital channels. I am going to pack this Toshiba back into it’s box and return it. I just got it last week at Best Buy. There’s too much to correct on this tv for me to even think about keeping it beyond the warranty period.

I’m not always able to get out of bed easily due to my health and this TV/DVD player really helps my day go by. I watch my old classic movies and mysteries. I don’t find much on TV that I care for so I don’t even have it hooked up for TV.

This is quite good for bedside but the sound isn’t very good on some DVDs so it needs to be close for me to hear it well and be able to use right from my bed.

For those reasons I think it is a good purchase.

We purchased the Toshiba 26 inch DVD combo in October of 2009. By January 2010, the TV lost all picture and was not functioning. After talking to Toshiba customer service (and no we did not buy the extended best buy warranty–shouldn’t they stand behind their products, instead of making you pay extra to ensure they work??) it was determined that we needed to drop off our TV at a service center locally for repair. We did so only to have the service center call us to tell us that they cannot fix the TV and it must be repaired at the Toshiba Depot center in Mass. Therefore not only did we go out of our way to the service repair site, we now need to pay upwards of 50 dollars of our money to ship a non-functioning TV to the service center for repair. This money will not be reimbursed. The TV isnt even five months old, and we are worried this will not be a sound product when all is said and done. If I could take it back I would. This is a huge inconvenience , and I do not believe I will purchase Toshiba products ever again.
